Celebrating 30 Years of the Buccino Leadership Institute

Students take advantage of the Professional Coaching Program at the Buccino Leadership
Institute.
For 30 years, Seton Hall University’s Buccino Leadership Institute has been at the forefront of cultivating exceptional leaders, equipping undergraduate
students with the tools and experiences typically reserved for seasoned executives
and earning a number of national recognitions for the program. As the institute marks
its 30th anniversary, it continues to evolve, embracing transformative strategies
such as professional coaching and mentorship that have set its graduates apart in
industries worldwide.
A cornerstone of the Buccino Leadership Institute is its robust professional coaching
program, which integrates one-on-one International Coaching Federation-certified leadership
coaching in the third year of the program.
“Being able to work with a professional coach has been an incredibly eye-opening experience,”
said senior Sophie Ulm. “I did a lot of work with my coach on understanding how I
see the world and approach issues versus how other people do and it has set me up
for success in ways that I have already seen in personal and professional settings.
Working with a coach who is so invested in my success has truly been one of the most
transformative experiences I have had in the institute.”
International Coaching Federation-certified coaches working with the institute, emphasize
the impact of this model, highlighting its alignment with professional leadership
development programs.
“The coaching that Buccino Leadership Institute students receive from top leadership
coaches mirrors what executives and professionals experience in professional settings,”
said coach Rebecca Feder. “It’s rare for undergraduate students to have access to
such high-caliber coaching and the results speak for themselves. We’re seeing students
think deeply about how they show up, what others need from them and pivot when useful,
to increase influence and followership. They are working through real life challenges
to develop advanced leadership competencies that will help make them highly competitive
as they enter the workforce.”
To advance the institute’s coaching capabilities, the undergraduate directors of the
Buccino Leadership Institute recently participated in “RESERO,” a coaching education
program presented by A.J. O’Connor, Associates, a Level 2 International Coaching Federation-accredited
coaching education provider. “RESERO,” Latin for “unlock,” is designed to prepare
21st century leaders to shape the destiny of their careers and organizations.
“This distinguished program was incredibly impactful,” said Elizabeth Halpin, vice dean of Continuing Education and Professional Studies and undergraduate director
of the Buccino Leadership Institute. “RESERO has not only enhanced my own leadership
skills, but has also provided me with tools to directly support and develop our students.
It’s a powerful investment in their future, ensuring they receive top-tier performance
enhancement coaching that will serve them well in their careers.”
To further strengthen our commitment in developing exceptional future leaders, the
institute and the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies are pleased to announce a pilot collaboration with AJO to provide coaching education
to the community through their “RESERO” coach certification program. The organizations
welcome professional coaches, HR representatives, leaders in all fields and those
interested in coaching training to participate in a 90-minute webinar titled “Honing
Your Coaching Presence and the Importance of Powerful Questions,” available to the
general public from 12 – 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 online (click here to register).
With a steadfast commitment to experiential learning, the Buccino Leadership Institute
continues to develop students who lead across industries. The institute’s graduates
have gone on to become influential figures in business, healthcare, technology, government,
education and beyond, demonstrating the profound impact of structured leadership development,
coaching and mentorship.
As the Buccino Leadership Institute celebrates 30 years of excellence, it remains
dedicated to preparing the next generation of leaders — and empowering students with
the skills, confidence and mentorship necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
