Indiana Academy, Burris rank high in list of top high schools

MUNCIE, Ind. — The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities and Burris Laboratory School have again ranked among the leading high schools in Indiana, according to U.S. News & World Report.

A news release issued by Ball State University, the Indiana Academy secured the No. 2 spot in the state in the magazine’s “2024 Best U.S. High Schools” listing, while Burris was ranked at No. 12.

Both institutions in Muncie are operated by Ball State’s Teachers College.

“This recognition underscores the unwavering dedication of our students, faculty, and staff in upholding academic excellence,” Anand R. Marri, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Ball State, said in the release. “Through the Indiana Academy and Burris Laboratory School, we remain committed to fostering exceptional learning environments that empower students and educators alike.”

The rankings are based on “a comprehensive evaluation of student outcomes, including state assessments, college-level exam performance, and graduation rates”

The Indiana Academy’s strong performance in state assessments and 97% graduation rate contributed significantly to its high ranking, the release said.

“Since its inception, the Indiana Academy has served as a beacon of academic excellence,” said Dain Kavars, executive director of the Indiana Academy. “Our students thrive in an intellectually stimulating environment that blends tradition with innovation, preparing them for future success.”
